Relativement peu diffusée en-dehors des milieux angevins, cette œuvre nous est parvenue par sept exemplaires, dont le manuscrit parisien, réalisé pour un destinataire inconnu (le nom de Jeanne de Laval a été évoqué par Rose-Marie Ferré), offre le témoin le plus complet. La copie du texte remonte aux années 1460, elle est contemporaine de celle de l’exemplaire personnel du roi René (Vienne, Österreischiche Nationalbibliothek, codex Vindobonensis 2597), tandis que les miniatures ont été ajoutées après coup, vers 1480/1485.
