Le ms. a été copié en Angleterre et décoré par le maître de l'abbé Simon de Saint Albans, comme on peut le comprendre des initiales ornées en tête des prologues et des livres. Il a appartenu à Jean Lebègue (1368-1457), greffier à la Chambre des comptes, notaire et secrétaire du roi Charles VI. Anagramme de son nom en manière d'ex-libris au f. 139r : « A bele viegne ».Ensuite, le ms. entra dans la bibliothèque royale. Cf. reliure aux armes de Charles IX (1550-1574), et les cotes au f. 1r : Rigault « CIƆIƆCCCCIII » (1903), Dupuy « 2087 », « [Regius] 10207 ».
Le ms. a été restauré par la Bibliothèque nationale en 1975 (sous n° 3056).
