Vellum covers from part of a Licence issued to Antonius de Verona, a physician, to travel freely, practice, and carry arms: the data and name of the issuing authroties, are unfortunately wanting, but the document was probably written c. 1450.

  • Compendium medicinae: in Italian. Practica ex dictis Mesue. The first 16 ll. of this MS. are written in a semi-current hand 34-36 lines to a page. The remainder is a by a contemporary rounded gothic book-hand, 28-30, lines to a page. On fol. 17 is an ornamental capital Q in red and black with marginal decorations: other capitals, headings and paragraph marks in red. Fol. 1 [L]O nostro signore idio per la sua potencia/si fece tuto el mondo... 16v ... e questa medexina/sie bono a uno ch'auese male di flanchi. 17 (red) Incipit pratica Magistri Johannis/de Parma./QVoniam quidam de melioribus amicis quos/habere uideor... 26v ... ex eodem cum medicinis infrigidan/tibus rnes.///Deo gratias amen. The first work deals with the four humours, temperaments,pulses, etc. and includes a version of the 'De urinis' of Michael Scotus (fol 4v, line 33 to to fol. 7v, line 9). THe name of 'Cioane' or 'Coane' da Parma is mentioned as author of a 'Praticha' on fol. 10, lines 7 and 13; and its is possible that he is the Author of this treatise. The second work is assigned to him in the text, and is entered as 'Practica exdietis Mesue' in Thorndike's 'Cartalogue of Incipits', Col. 602.
