  • Liber chirurgiae qui summa vocatur. A collection of medical receipts in Italian. Written in a semi-current hand: 25-26 lines to a page. Heading to the Index, paragraph marks and early foliation in red. As the old foliation began on fol. 1 of the text, the MS. has been re-foliated, starting with the first leaf of the volume. Fol. 1 'Unguento per dolor et indegestion de stomacho' by an early 16th cent. hand. 2 Blank. These are probably later additions: on fol. 179, line 15 is a reference to the plague at Bâle in 1438, and on fol. 181, line 17, to an outbreak at Pisa in 1457. Below these are medical receipts by early 16th cent. hands. Fol. 184 Receipt for an unguent, c. 1450. 184v Medical receipts by an early 16th cent. hand. 185 Anonymous account of a voyage made during the expedition to Tunis in 1535. A number of entries have been struck through or blotted over-most of these appear to be charms to cure sickness, or because of indecency of the subject (aphrodisiacs, etc.).
