  • This manuscript holds a group of sermons on the Pauline epistles. This collection was popular in the Middle Ages and has a large number of textual witnesses. The sermons are ascribed to Augustine of Hippo (354-430), although a few are now assumed to have been written by others. One, on ff. 79r-80r, is now attributed to Maximus Turinensis (c. 380-c. 465), while the author(s) of three others (ff. 39v-40v; 80r-82v; and 104r-105r) are anonymous and are described as Pseudo-Augustine. This manuscript dates from the thirteenth century and is a typical example of book production around that time. Each page contains two columns of text, written without decoration. The sermons are separated by rubricated titles and each sermon begins with an initial in either red or blue ink. Some decoration is added to this in the opposite colour (and occasionally green for red initials). Undecorated, monochrome initials are also used in the index, which is found on the first three leaves. The manuscript was first part of the library of Ter Doest, as indicated by an ownership mark and book curse found on the final fly leaf. When the abbey was merged with that of Ten Duinen, the manuscript was brought into the collection of the latter. The first and last leaves carry the cross-shaped stamp of Ten Duinen. The manuscript is bound in a seventeenth-century binding of the 'Campmans' type. [Summary by Dr. Mark Vermeer]
